And so I had all these ridiculous core values that I was expecting everyone to live by, but no one really lived by them except if it was a coincidence. Melissa: I love that. It completely transformed her feeling of the Russian people, the Russian countryside, Russian literature, and it transformed what she and her colleagues were discussing on a regular basis, constantly quoting stuff they had memorized because now it was a part of who they were. And what she talked about was when I shared with her basically everyone in the rooms opinion of her and how she felt she had to change, and then basically she did. Everything you read in his book is absolutely true. I will never touch that. Then finally, its their soccer success. Thats too far beneath us.. Anson: And if the kid treated the parents poorly he wouldnt offer them a scholarship because obviously if the kid doesnt treat the parents poorly the kids not going to treat him well or his culture well. And obviously youre going to have a different set just based on your own culture. Anson: We do it early in the fall. And even in their review of where they stand in self-discipline, competitive fire, self-belief, love of the ball, love of playing the game, love of watching the game, grit and coachability, with basically 2 exceptionswell, actually, with just 1 exceptionevery one of their grades is their own, so when they average it out they are doing their own evaluation. But also Id love to be a mind reader. My favorite moment, every time I would hear him speak, was when he would tell everyone in the room that every single year fire, the bottom 10% of your workforce, everyone in the room would gasp. So the first thing you have to embrace is that everyones different. And what was interesting about Jack Welch is he would sit on the stage in a comfortable chair, interviewed by someone from Fortune also sitting in a comfortable chair, and he would just answer questions. We had sort of a vague idea that in order to be effective you had to be great 1 v. 1, so we have 5 different 1-on-1 ladders. And then after I had a collision with this player and her family that had me involved in a ten-year lawsuit, a girl I should have cut in the preseason of her freshman year and it would have solved all kinds of problems a couple of years later, when I finally did cut her, Ive now learned it. I want to sit on the stage and. So thats one of the functions that has made all the difference in the world, but its not in my opinion the most important one. This kid is coming home from school. That is correct - 22 national titles. So those five, Ive done those for a while in the last five, I assume were doing these sprints until the end of reported time. We need them to embrace and live what we have collected below because our culture and core values are only as strong as our leaders and what they endorse and drive as acceptable behavior.
